The auxiliary heater is an optional floor-mounted heater that provides heating to the rear of the vehicle. This unit operates independently of the standard heater. The auxiliary heater is regulated through the auxiliary heater control on the instrument panel. The auxiliary system consists of the following:
• | A separate heater core |
• | A blower fan |
Heater hoses extend from the auxiliary unit to a vacuum-operated water valve where the heater hoses connect to the standard heater hoses. The three-position, vacuum-operated water valve cuts off coolant flow when the OFF position is selected. When the LOW or MEDIUM positions are selected, the valve eliminates radiant heat and reduces coolant flow.
The three-speed blower motor switch for the auxiliary heater is located in the instrument panel, above the radio. In addition to controlling blower motor speed, the switch also triggers an electro-mechanical valve that controls coolant flow to the auxiliary heater core. The blower motor switch and the valve positions are as follows:
Blower Motor Switch | Valve Position |
---|---|
OFF | Valve closed |
LOW | Valve open |
MEDIUM | Valve open |
HIGH | Valve open |
