Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle to a suitable height.
  2. Remove the assist step extension. Refer to Assist Step Replacement .
  3. Important: Do not use a sharp tool in the removal of the assist step retainer, It will damage the paint. Use a plastic tool to assist in the removal of the assist step retainer.

  4. Remove the assist step retainer screws from the rocker panel.
  5. Insert a plastic tool along the edge of the retainer to aid in the removal.
  6. Remove the assist step retainer. The right side is a one piece retainer, the left side is a two piece retainer.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the assist step retainer to the rocker panel. The right side is a one piece retainer, the left side is a two piece retainer .
  2. 1.1. Clean the rocker panel with isopropyl cleaner or equivalent to remove all of the old double back tape.
    1.2. Remove the strip from the double sided adhesive tape.
    1.3. Align the assist step retainer to the rocker panel and press firmly in place.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the assist step retainer screws to the rocker panel.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the assist step retainer screws to the rocker panel to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the assist step extensions. Refer to Assist Step Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle.
