REPLACEMENT BRAKE PIPES (SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION)

MODELS: 1990 M/L VANS WITH 4 WHEEL ANTI-LOCK BRAKES

Service brake pipe assemblies are now available from GMSPO for all 1990 M/L vans equipped with 4 Wheel Anti-Lock Brakes (see figure 1.). Dealers may order the assemblies whenever a repair requires brake pipe replacement.

NOTICE: The brake assemblies must be installed carefully to avoid causing kinks or binds that could restrict fluid flow.

Whenever brake pipes are replaced the brake system should be bled to assure no air remains. Dealers should reference the revised brake bleeding procedure given in GMC Truck Service bulletin 90-5E-48.

Replacement brake pipes may also be fabricated at the dealership by carefully following the instructions given in section 5A-page 8 of service manual X-9030.

NOTICE: Whenever replacing brake pipes (with fabricated or GMSPO supplied assemblies) technicians should always maintain sufficient clearance between the pipes and all other components to avoid vibrations, rattling, or damage to the pipes and other components.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
