The rear brakes must be adjusted manually after replacing
the brake shoes.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the knockout plugs
(1) in the backing plate.
- Tighten the adjusting screw until the wheel can just be turned
by hand.
The brake lining drag should be equal at both wheels.
- Loosen the adjusting screw 24 notches.
Important: The brake shoes should not drag after backing off the adjusting screw
12 notches. If you get heavy drag, refer to
Park Brake Cable Inspection
in Park Brake.
- Install an adjusting hole cover in the backing plate.
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the park brake adjustment. Refer to
Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment
in Park Brake.
