Parking Brake Cable Replacement Front Cables
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Loosen the equalizer.
- Disconnect the front cable from the connector at the left rear
cable.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the release cable
(1) from the lever assembly (2).
- Remove the cowl side panel trim. Refer to
Cowl Side Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the lever assembly. Refer to
Park Brake Lever Assembly Replacement
.
- Remove the step trim plate.
Refer to Trim Plate Replacement in Interior Trim. Lift the rocker panel trim
and peel back the carpet to expose the park brake cable grommet (4).
- Remove the front cable (3). Unclip the cable and pull through
the body.
Installation Procedure
- Install the front cable.
• | Secure the grommet (4) to the body. |
• | Clip the cable at the kick panel. |
- Connect the cable (1)
to the lever assembly (2). Refer to
Park Brake Lever Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the lever assembly. Refer to
Park Brake Lever Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the cowl side panel. Refer to
Cowl Side Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Install the step trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement in
Interior Trim.
- Connect the release cable to the lever assembly.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Connect the cable to the connector at the left rear cable.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the adjustment. Refer to
Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment
.
Parking Brake Cable Replacement Rear Cables
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the spring from
the equalizer.
- Loosen the equalizer.
- Remove the connector at the front cable.
- Remove the brake drum and the shoe assembly. Make sure to bend
in the cable-retaining fingers at the backing plate. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
- Remove the rear cable.
Installation Procedure
- Connect the rear cable
into the backing plate. Make sure all retaining fingers are completely through
the backing plate.
- Install the brake shoes and the drum assembly. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
- Install the connector.
- Connect the spring to the equalizer.
- Adjust the rear cables. Refer to
Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment
.
- Lower the vehicle.
