Steering Wheel Inflator Module Replacement with RPO CTF
Removal Procedure
Caution: When performing service on or around the SIR components or the SIR wiring,
follow the procedures listed below in order to temporarily disable the SIR
system. Failure to follow the procedures could result in the following:
• | Otherwise unneeded SIR system repairs |
- Disable
the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position to unlock the steering
wheel.
- Turn the steering wheel
90 degrees clockwise in order to access the rear shroud hole to the
steering wheel inflator module.
- Insert a screwdriver and push the leaf spring to release the pin.
- Turn the steering wheel 180 counterclockwise degrees in
order to access the remaining rear shroud hole.
- Insert a screwdriver and push the leaf spring to release the pin.
- Remove the steering wheel
inflator module by tilting the module rearward from the top in order to access
the SIR wiring.
- Disconnect the SIR lead
wire from the clip on the steering wheel.
- Remove the connector position
assurance (CPA) and the retainer from the steering wheel inflator module.
Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:
• | Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on
the inflator module |
• | Make sure the bag opening points away from you |
When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag
opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests.
When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag
opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the
air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal
injury may result.
- Remove the steering wheel inflator module.
