Removal Procedure

Caution: When a lift window hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

  1. Open and support the liftgate.
  2. Remove the strut. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement

  3. Object Number: 163183  Size: SH
  4. Remove the strut retaining clips at each end of the strut, use a small flat bladed tool to lift up on the retaining clip to release it from the strut ball.
  5. Remove the strut from the strut ball by pulling rearward.

  6. Object Number: 362012  Size: SH
  7. Remove the strut ball from the lid or body by turning counterclockwise.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the strut ball to lid or body by turning clockwise into the weldnut.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the strut ball to 25  N·m(18 lb ft).

  3. Install the strut retaining clips to each end of the strut if removed.
  4. Install the strut to the strut ball by press on each end of the strut until it snap in place.
  5. Remove the strut. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement
  6. Remove the support and close liftgate.
