The universal garage door opener is in the overhead console. The universal garage door opener provides the battery voltage at all times. Use the hand-held transmitter(s) of the owner's garage door/gate opener or the security system in order to program the unit.

The effective range of the garage door opener system is dependent upon several installation variables. Use the following guidelines in order to maximize the effective range. Of course, the receiver unit must have an available source of power for the transformer to plug into. Once you install the receiver, the owner should have no need to regularly access the receiver. Do not mount the receiver unit out of doors. The receiver is not designed to withstand the elements.

Mount the receiver unit such that no metal objects, especially metal garage doors, will be in the direct path of the transmitter signals as used from within the vehicle. Any metal object in the path can effectively redirect the signal sway from the receiver. Many newer homes have metallic sheathing under the exterior finish. Consider mounting the receiver in an attic area if the other mounting locations prove ineffective.

Mount the receiver unit such that the unit is physically as near as practical to where the transmitter will be used. For example, simply moving the transmitter from the rear of the garage to the front may add 20 feet to the effective range. Again, do not place the unit behind any metal objects or out of doors.

In cases where the above mentioned guidelines do not provide adequate range, extending the receiver antenna may provide the additional improvements. To extend the antenna, simply attach a wire to the receiver antenna. Typically, no more than 2 feet of a small gage wired attached in a vertical position will improve the range.

The universal garage door opener is compatible with most, but not all types and brands of transmitters.
