Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 651569  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  3. Use a suitable transmission jack stand to support the transmission.

  4. Object Number: 709158  Size: SH
  5. Remove the transfer case mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the transfer case adapter.

  7. Object Number: 654219  Size: SH

    Important: Use caution when removing the gasket from the transfer case. The transfer case is made out of Magnesium and will damaged easily.

  8. Remove the gasket from the transfer case.

  9. Object Number: 709077  Size: SH
  10. Remove the seal from the transfer case adapter.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 709077  Size: SH

    Important: DO NOT use any type of sealant or adhesive on the transfer case adapter seal.

  1. Install the new transfer case adapter seal.
  2. Install the transfer case adapter.

  3. Object Number: 709158  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the transfer case adapter mounting bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the transfer case adapter mounting bolts to 55 N·m (40 lb ft).

  6. Install the transmission mount assembly.

  7. Object Number: 654219  Size: SH

    Important: Do not reuse the old gasket if it is damaged, replaced it. DO NOT use any type of sealer in place of the gasket.

  8. Install the new transfer case gasket.
  9. Install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
