Evaporator Tube Replacement C60

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  3. Object Number: 280394  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the evaporator tube nut at the evaporator.
  5. Remove the evaporator tube (2) from the evaporator.
  6. Remove the O-ring seal.
  7. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  8. Loosen the evaporator tube nut at the condenser.
  9. Remove the evaporator tube (2) from the condenser (4).
  10. Remove the O-ring seal.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 280394  Size: SH
  1. Install the new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the evaporator tube (2) to the condenser (4).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Tighten the evaporator tube nut (3) to the condenser (4).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 28 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  7. Install the new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  8. Install the evaporator tube to the evaporator.
  9. Tighten the evaporator tube nut at the evaporator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 28 N·m (20 lb ft).

  11. Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  12. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
  13. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.

Evaporator Tube Replacement C69

Tools Required

    • J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover
    • J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.
  2. Remove the accumulator. Refer to Air Conditioning Accumulator Replacement .
  3. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.

  5. Loosen the evaporator tube nut at the evaporator.
  6. Remove the evaporator tube (2) from the evaporator.
  7. Remove the O-ring seal.
  8. Loosen the evaporator tube nut at the condenser.
  9. Remove the evaporator tube (2) from the condenser (4).
  10. Remove the O-ring seal.
  11. Remove the right front tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Use the J 38778 to remove the retainers from the splash shield.
  13. Remove the splash shield from the wheelhouse.
  14. Remove the nut at the auxiliary evaporator tube block fitting.
  15. Remove the evaporator tube from the auxiliary evaporator tube.
  16. Remove the O-ring seal.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Remove the evaporator tube.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the evaporator tube (2) to the condenser (4).

  6. Install the new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  7. Install the evaporator tube to the evaporator.
  8. Tighten the evaporator tube nut at the evaporator.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 28 N·m (20 lb ft).

  10. Raise the vehicle.
  11. Install the new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  12. Install the evaporator tube to the auxiliary evaporator tube.
  13. Install the auxiliary evaporator tube block fitting nut.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 28 N·m (20 lb ft).

  15. Install the splash shield to the wheelhouse.
  16. Install the retainers to the splash shield.
  17. Install the right front tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  18. Install the accumulator. Refer to Air Conditioning Accumulator Replacement .
  19. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
  20. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  21. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.
