Wheel Stud Replacement RWD Pickups

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the rotor. Refer to Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement .

    2. Object Number: 1819 Size: SH
  2. Remove the wheel stud.
    3. • Press the stud out using an arbor press.
    • Do not damage the wheel mounting surface on the wheel hub flange.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1819 Size: SH
  1. Install the stud into the hole in the wheel hub.
    2. 1.1. Start the serrated stud into the hole in the wheel hub by tapping lightly with a hammer.
    1.2. The stud must be square with the wheel hub before pressing on the arbor press.
  2. Install the rotor. Refer to Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement .

J 43631 Ball Joint Remover

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement .

    4. Object Number: 649304 Size: SH

    Important: Do not hammer on a wheel stud.

  4. Remove the wheel stud using J 43631 .

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the wheel stud to the wheel hub and bearing assembly.

    2. Object Number: 161272 Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install 4 washers and the nut to the wheel stud.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel stud nut to 130 N·m (95 lb ft), drawing in the wheel stud.

  3. Remove the nut and the washers from the wheel stud.
  4. Install the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement .
  5. Install the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
