Fan Clutch Replacement 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L
Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner and the duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
- Remove the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to
Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement
.
- Remove the upper radiator shroud. Refer to
Radiator Replacement
.
- For the 4.3L, 5.0L, and the 5.7L, remove the fan and the clutch retaining
nut from the coolant pump pulley.
- Remove the fan and the clutch from the vehicle.
- Remove the retaining bolts from the fan and clutch.
- Separate the fan from the clutch.
Installation Procedure
- connect the fan and clutch.
- Install the retaining bolts to the fan and clutch.
Tighten
Tighten the fan and clutch retaining bolts to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- For the 4.3L, 5.0L, and the 5.7L, install the fan and the clutch to
the vehicle.
- Install the fan and the clutch retaining nut to the coolant pump
pulley.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 57 N·m (42 lb ft).
- Install the upper radiator shroud. Refer to

- Install the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to
Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement
.
- Install the air cleaner and the duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
Fan Clutch Replacement 6.5L Diesel
Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner and the duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
- Remove the surge tank. Refer to
Surge Tank (Diesel)

- Remove the upper radiator shroud. Refer to
Radiator Replacement
.
- Remove the fan and the clutch retaining nuts from the coolant pump pulley.
- Remove the fan and the clutch from the vehicle.
- Remove the retaining bolts from the fan and clutch.
- Separate the fan and clutch.
Installation Procedure
- Install the fan and clutch.
- Install the retaining bolts to the fan and clutch.
Tighten
Tighten the fan and clutch retaining bolts to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

Removal Procedure

- Remove the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to

- Remove the fan and the clutch retaining nuts from the coolant pump pulley.
- Remove the fan and the clutch from the vehicle.
- Remove the retaining bolts from the fan and clutch.
- Separate the fan and clutch.

- Install the retaining bolts to the fan and clutch.
