Battery Cable Positive

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the coolant reservoir partially from the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery.

  5. Disconnect the positive lead to the junction block.

  6. Object Number: 105195  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the positive lead to the generator.
  8. Remove the cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cable to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 105195  Size: SH
  3. Connect the positive lead to the generator.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the generator lead nut to 10 N·m (89 lb ib).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the positive lead to the junction block.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the junction block nut to 10 N·m (89 lb lb).

  7. Connect the positive battery cable to the battery.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminals to 10 N·m (89 lb ib).

  10. Install the coolant reservoir to the vehicle.

Battery Cable Negative 4.3L

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal.   3. Connect the negative ground to the engine.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the negative ground bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

Battery Cable Negative 5.0L and 5.7L

Removal Procedure

Battery Cable Auxiliary Positive

Removal Procedure

  4. Remove the positive battery cable retainers from the frame.
  5. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the auxiliary battery.
  6. Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 105191  Size: SH
  1. Install the positive battery cable to the vehicle.
  2. Connect the positive battery cable to the auxiliary battery.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the auxiliary positive battery cable to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the positive battery cable retainers to the frame.
  5. Connect the positive battery cable to the battery.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

Battery Cable Auxiliary Negative

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the auxiliary battery. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  4. Connect the negative battery cable to the auxiliary battery.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the auxiliary negative battery cable to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

Battery Cable Disconnecting Procedure

Disconnecting the Negative Battery Cable for Service

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Record all preset and theft codes from the radio.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Verify that all electrical components are off such as interior lights, all doors are closed, underhood lamp ect.
  4. Remove the retaining bolt from the negative battery cable.
  5. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery.
  6. Position the negative battery cable away from any body ground.

Connecting the Negative Battery Cable for Service

  1. Verify that all electrical components are off such as interior lights, all doors are closed, underhood lamp ect.
  2. Clean the negative battery cable from corrosion using a metal brush.
  3. Install the negative battery cable to the battery.
  4. Install the retaining bolt to the negative battery cable.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable to 10 N·m ,(81 lb in).

  6. Reset the radio stations and clock.
