SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ABOUT VERTICAL SCRATCHES ON THE ROLL UP WINDOW GLASS IN ONE OR BOTH FRONT DOORS.
THE FRONT DOOR OUTER WINDOW SEALING STRIP IS DESIGNED WITH 5 RETAINING CLIPS THAT SNAP INTO SLOTS IN THE DOOR SHEET METAL (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEMS 1 + 2). IF ONE OR MORE OF THESE RETAINING CLIPS IS NOT PROPERLY SEATED, THEY MAY RUB AGAINST THE OUTSIDE SURFACE OF THE GLASS. IF DIRT IS PRESENT ON THE CLIP, IT WILL CAUSE A SCRATCH IN THE GLASS SURFACE AS IT IS ROLLED UP AND DOWN.
THE CAUSE OF RETAINING CLIPS NOT SEATING INTO THESE SLOTS MAY BE DUE TO A METAL BRACKET MOUNTED AT THE REAR END OF THE WINDOW OPENING (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 3) THAT IS TOO HIGH, PREVENTING THE SEALING STRIP FROM SEATING SQUARELY ON TOP OF THE SHEET METAL FLANGE.
TRY PRESSING THE SEALING STRIP DOWN NEXT TO THE SCRATCH MARK ON THE GLASS. IF IT SNAPS FIRMLY INTO PLACE, POLISH THE SCRATCHES OUT OF THE GLASS FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED IN SECTION 10A3 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL. TO VERIFY THAT THE CLIPS ARE NO LONGER RUBBING AGAINST THE GLASS, MARK THE GLASS WITH A FELT TIP MARKER (NON PERMANENT) PEN AT THE CLIP LOCATIONS. ROLL THE GLASS UP AND DOWN A COUPLE TIMES AND LOOK FOR SIGNS OF RUBBING. CLEAN THE GLASS IF NO RUBBING IS SEEN.
IF THE SCRATCHES ARE TOO DEEP TO BE REMOVED BY POLISHING, OR THE STRIP DID NOT SNAP FIRMLY INTO PLACE, REMOVE THE GLASS USING THE FOLLOWING SERVICE PROCEDURE.
1 REMOVE THE FRONT DOOR GLASS FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED IN SECTION 10A1 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.
2. CHECK THE OUTER WINDOW SEALING STRIP SEAL FOR DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY AT CLIP LOCATIONS, AND REPLACE IF NECESSARY.
3. INSPECT THE SEALING STRIP RETAINING CLIPS FOR BEING FULLY SEATED IN THEIR SLOTS. IF THEY ARE NOT, PRESS THE STRIP DOWN TO SEE IF THEY WILL SNAP FIRMLY INTO PLACE.
4. IF THE BRACKET AT THE REAR LOWER EDGE OF THE WINDOW OPENING (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 3) PREVENTS THE SEAL CLIPS FROM SEATING, GRIND OFF THE EXCESS MATERIAL. TO PREVENT CORROSION, REFINISH THE GRINDING AREA USING THE PAINT SYSTEM UTILIZED AT YOUR DEALERSHIP.
5. INSTALL THE OUTER SEAL STRIP AND CHECK THAT ALL 5 CLIPS ARE SEATED IN THE SLOTS.
6. INSTALL THE NEW DOOR GLASS, OR REINSTALL THE POLISHED ORIGINAL GLASS, FOLLOWING THE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURE.
7. CHECK FOR ANY RETAINING CLIP RUBBING THE GLASS USING THE FELT TIP PEN PROCEDURE DESCRIBED ABOVE AND THEN CLEAN THE GLASS.
