Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission assembly and the flywheel. Refer to Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement in Transmission/Transaxle.

  2. Object Number: 4071  Size: SH
  3. Remove the following fasteners from the oil seal housing:
  4. • Three screws using a T27 Torx® wrench and one nut.
    • Two lower studs using an E7 Torx® wrench.

  5. Remove the oil seal housing.

  6. Object Number: 4073  Size: SH
  7. Remove the gasket and discard it. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Removal
  8. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  9. Inspect the housing for warping, cracks, wear, or damage.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 4073  Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW gasket.

  2. Object Number: 4072  Size: SH
  3. Install the oil seal housing to the engine block. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Installation

  4. Object Number: 4071  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the following fasteners to the oil seal housing:
  6. • Three screws using a T27 Torx® wrench and one nut.
    • Two lower studs using an E7 Torx® wrench.

    Tighten

    • Tighten the crankshaft rear oil seal housing screws and nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
    • Tighten the lower studs to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
  7. Install the transmission assembly and the flywheel. Refer to Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement in Transmission/Transaxle.
