Removal Procedure
Notice: The inertial weight section of the crankshaft balancer is
assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct installation
procedures (with the proper tool) must be followed or movement of the inertial
weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the crankshaft balancer.

Important: Use a small amount of RTV sealer in order to seal the crankshaft key
to the crankshaft.
- Install the crankshaft key to the crankshaft, if necessary.
- Install the stud to the crankshaft and thread the stud fully into
the tapered hole in the crankshaft.
- Install the crankshaft balancer (external) over the end of the
crankshaft.
- Install the bearings, washer, and the nut to the crankshaft using
the following procedures:
- Turn the nut to pull the crankshaft balancer (external) into place.
- Use the J 23523-F
to install the crankshaft balancer on the crankshaft.
- Remove the J 23523-F
.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the crankshaft
balancer (external) bolt and washer.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 115 N·m (85 lb ft).
- Install the drive pulley
to the crankshaft balancer.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Install the lower fan shroud to the radiator. Refer to
Fan Shroud Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
