Removal Procedure

Oil Filter Bypass Valve


    Object Number: 39122  Size: SH
  1. Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  2. Remove the bolts.
  3. Remove the oil filter bypass valve.
  4. Inspect the bypass valve spring and valve disc for proper operation, cracks, and damage.
  5. Replace the oil filter bypass valve if necessary.

  6. Clean the valve chamber in the engine block.

Oil Filter Adapter


    Object Number: 66193  Size: SH
  1. Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  2. Remove the oil cooler pipes. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the bolts.
  4. Remove the oil filter adapter.
  5. Remove the gasket and the seal.
  6. Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure

Oil Filter Bypass Valve


    Object Number: 39122  Size: SH
  1. Install the oil filter bypass valve and a new gasket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts finger tight.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the engine oil and the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .

Oil Filter Adapter

  1. Install the oil filter adapter gasket.
  2. Install the oil filter adapter.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   4. Install the bolts.

  7. Install the engine oil and the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
