Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure
.
- Remove the ignition coil.
- Remove the intake manifold plenum. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Disconnect the vacuum line to the regulator.
- Remove the snap ring (1) from the pressure regulator housing.
- Place a towel under regulator to catch any fuel, then remove pressure
regulator from fuel socket. Twist back and forth while pulling from the socket.
- Remove the fuel pressure regulator (2) from the fuel rail socket.
- Remove the pressure regulator small O-ring (6), filter (5), large
O-ring (4), O-ring backup (3), and discard.
Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the new pressure
regulator O-rings (4) and (6) with clean engine oil and install on the regulator
inlet as a complete assembly.
- Install the snap ring retainer (1) into the slot on the fuel regulator
housing.
Important:
• | Verify that retainer is engaged in slot in pressure regulator
housing. Grasp and pull on regulator (2) to ensure that it is properly seated. |
• | Connect the negative battery cable. |
• | Turn ignition to ON for two seconds and then turn OFF for 10 seconds.
Once again turn the ignition to ON and check for fuel leaks. |
