Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
  5. Remove the turbocharger heat shield mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the turbocharger heat shield.
  7. Remove the vacuum line to the wastegate actuator.

  9. Remove the wastegate actuator mounting bolt under the right side of the turbocharger.

  10. Object Number: 177973  Size: SH
  11. Remove the wastegate actuator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the wastegate actuator.

  2. Object Number: 177972  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: Use thread sealant GM P/N 12345739 on the actuator bolt thread.

  3. Install the wastegate actuator mounting bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  5. Install the turbocharger heat shield.
  6. Important: Use a thread locker GM P/N 12345382 on the heat shield bolts and nut.

  7. Install the turbocharger heat shield mounting bolts and nut.
  8. Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolts (right and top) to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the center bolts to 22 N·m (17 lb ft).
    3. Tighten the heat shield nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
  9. Install the wastegate actuator vacuum line.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Start the engine and check the operation of the wastegate actuator.
  12. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
  13. Close the hood.
