Rear Brake Hose Replacement 8 1/2 and 9 1/2 Inch Ring Gear

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 161533  Size: SH

    Important: Clean dirt, grease, and other foreign material from the hose fittings on both ends of the brake hose before servicing brake components.

  1. Disconnect the rear brake pipe from the brake hose.
  2. Remove the retaining nut and retaining clip from the front of the rear brake hose.

  3. Object Number: 161566  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the rear brake pipes on the rear axle from the brake hose.
  5. Remove the retaining bolt of the rear brake hose from the rear axle.
  6. Remove the brake hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 161566  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear brake hose to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the rear brake pipes on the axle to the brake hose.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the rear brake pipes to the brake hose to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  5. Install the retaining bolt of the rear brake hose to the rear axle.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolt of the rear brake hose to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    Important: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted. Make sure the brake hose is not in contact with any suspension components.

  7. Install the retaining nut and retaining clip to the front brake hose.
  8. Connect the rear brake pipe to the brake hose.
  9. Bleed the brake hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.

Rear Brake Hose Replacement 10 1/2 Inch Ring Gear

Removal Procedure

  5. Object Number: 161569  Size: SH
  6. Remove the retaining bolt of the rear brake hose from the rear axle.
  7. Remove the bracket of the rear brake hose from the rear axle.
  8. Remove the brake hose from the vehicle.

  1. Install the rear brake hose to the vehicle.

  7. Install the bracket of the rear brake hose to the rear axle.
  8. Install the retaining bolt of the rear brake hose to the rear axle.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
