  1. Turn OFF the engine.
  2. Disconnect the BRN (25) wire connector from the generator. If equipped with dual generators disconnect both generators, one at a time.

Does the battery indicator remain lit with a the generator unplugged?

Go to Step 4

Replace the generator(s). Refer to Generator Replacement .

Does the battery indicator remain lit?

  1. Disconnect the connector at the instrument cluster.
  2. Connect a J 39200 between the generator connector cavity B (W/ 100 amp generator) or cavity L (W/ 124 amp generator) and ground.

Is continuity present?

Locate and repair the short to ground in BRN (25) wire between the instrument cluster and the generator(s).

Is the repair complete?

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster And Gages, in Electrical Diagnosis.
