Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil Module Replacement 7.4L
Removal Procedure
- Remove
the engine cover, if equipped.
- Remove the air cleaner
assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Duct Replacement in engine controls.
- In order to gain access to the ignition coil, relocate the engine
wiring harness at the left rear side of the engine.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors for the ignition coil and
the ICM.
- Remove the bolts retaining
the coil to the intake manifold.
- Remove the ignition coil.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the ignition coil and the bolts to the intake manifold.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 27 N·m (22 lb in).
- Install the electrical connectors.
- Install the ignition coil wire to coil.
The wire must not touch anything like the dip stick, rubing will make
a ground/short after time of use.
- Relocate the engine wiring harness at the left rear side of the
engine.
- Install the air cleaner
assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Duct Replacement in engine controls.
- Install the engine cover, if equipped.
