Two bi-directional permanent-magnet motors operate the power outside rear view mirrors. One motor moves the mirror on an axis in order to direct the reflection either left or right. The other motor moves the mirror on an axis in order to direct the reflection either up or down. Depending on which motor terminal voltage is applied to, the motor will operate in one direction or the other. The power outside rearview mirror remote control switch performs the switching to select which mirror operates and in which direction the mirror moves. Contacts in the switch close in order to apply both power and ground to the selected motor in order to move the mirror in the selected direction. The connections for power and ground reverse in order to move the motor in the other direction. Moving the base of the switch operates the left/right mirror selection. This prevents current flow through the non-selected mirror.

Power is available at all times to the power outside rearview mirror remote control switch in CKT 40 (ORN) from CTSY Fuse 3 in the IP fuse block. Ground from the switch is in CKT 150 (BLK) to ground G201 in all of the vehicles. Vehicles with upfitter provisions have a supplemental ground G200.
