Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 9519-E Ball Joint Remover/Installer Set

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands.

    2. Caution: Floor jack must remain under the lower control arm during removal and installation to retain the lower control arm in position. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

  2. Support the lower control arm with safety stands.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the upper control arm from the vehicle. Refer to Upper Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.

    5. Object Number: 367488 Size: SH
  5. Using the tools as shown remove the upper control arm bushings from the control arm.

    6. Remove the tool.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 179441 Size: SH
  1. Insert the new control arm bushings into the control arm.

    2. Object Number: 367487 Size: SH
  2. Using the tools as shown install the upper control arm bushings into the control arm.

    3. Important: Make sure the bushings are properly seated in the control arm.

  3. Remove the tool.

    4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the upper control arm to the vehicle. Refer to Upper Control Arm Replacement .

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts with the control arm at Z height. Refer to Trim Height Inspection in Suspension General Diagnosis.

    • Tighten the nuts to 190 N·m (140 lb ft).
  5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Remove the safety stands.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel Alignment.
