Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose from the intake manifold fitting.

  6. Remove the pressure regulator retaining clip (1).
  7. Place a towel under the pressure regulator in order to catch any fuel.
  8. Remove the pressure regulator (2) from the housing by twisting the regulator back and forth while pulling the regulator from the housing.
  9. Remove the pressure regulator small O-ring (6), filter (5), large O-ring (4), O-ring backup (3), and discard.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the new fuel pressure regulator large and small O-rings with clean engine oil.
  2. Install the O-ring backup (3), large O-ring (4), filter (5), and small O-ring (6) on the fuel pressure regulator.
  3. Install the fuel pressure regulator (2) into the housing on the fuel rail.
  4. Install the new fuel pressure regulator retaining clip (1).
  5. Verify that the retainer clip (1) is engaged in the slot in the pressure regulator housing. Grasp and pull on the regulator (2) in order to ensure that it is properly seated.

  7. Connect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose to the intake manifold fitting.
  8. Install the fuel filler cap.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Inspect for leaks.
  11. 9.1. Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds.
    9.2. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
    9.3. Turn the ignition ON.
    9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  12. Install the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
