Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Left

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 172995  Size: SH
  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the PCV valve and hose assembly from the valve rocker arm cover and the intake manifold.

  3. Object Number: 543569  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) gauge sensor electrical connector.
  5. Remove the ECT gauge sensor connector from the bracket.
  6. Remove the spark plug wires for the left side of the engine from the distributor cap. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  7. Remove the rear spark plug wire harness retainer from the EGR valve inlet pipe bracket.
  8. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal .
  9. Clean all sealing surfaces and the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation .

  2. Object Number: 543569  Size: SH
  3. Connect the spark plug wires to the distributor cap. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Install the rear spark plug wire harness retainer to the EGR valve inlet pipe bracket.
  5. Install the ECT gauge sensor electrical connector to the bracket.
  6. Connect the ECT gauge sensor electrical connector.

  8. Install the PCV valve and hose assembly in the valve rocker arm cover and to the intake manifold.
  9. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.

Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Right

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 183399  Size: SH
  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the spark plug wires for the right side of the engine from the distributor cap. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement .
  3. Remove the PCV tube from the valve rocker arm cover and the air inlet duct.
  4. Move the engine wiring harness aside.

  6. Remove the screw holding the oil fill tube to the oil fill tube lower support.
  7. Remove the oil fill tube from the right valve rocker arm cover and move aside.
  8. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal .
  9. Clean all sealing surfaces. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the right valve rocker arm cover and bolts. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation .

  2. Object Number: 374491  Size: SH
  3. Install the oil fill tube in the right valve rocker arm cover.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the oil fill tube and bolt to the oil fill tube lower support.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the oil fill tube to lower support bolt to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  7. Install the PCV hose in the valve rocker arm cover and to the air inlet duct.
  8. Connect the spark plug wires to the distributor cap. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  9. Position the engine wiring harness.
  10. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
