Removal Procedure

Important: On some models, the muffler services with an exhaust pipe, not separately but as a complete unit.

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Loosen the exhaust pipe clamp that retains the exhaust pipe to the front of the muffler, if applicable. Remove the retaining nuts from the front muffler flange. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .
  3. Loosen the exhaust pipe clamp that retains the tail pipe to the rear of the muffler, if applicable.

  5. Remove the hangers from the exhaust system, as required.

  7. Remove the muffler from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the muffler to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 160898  Size: SH
  3. Install the hangers to the exhaust system, as required.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: Ensure proper alignment of newly installed exhaust components before tightening all clamps and bolts.

  5. Tighten the exhaust pipe clamp that retains the exhaust pipe to the front of the muffler, if applicable. Install the new gasket and retaining nuts to the front muffler flange. Tighten the nuts. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust pipe clamp that retains the exhaust pipe to the front of the muffler to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  7. Tighten the exhaust pipe clamp that retains the tailpipe to the rear of the muffler, if applicable.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust pipe clamp that retains the tailpipe to the rear of the muffler to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  9. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
