Did you review the HVAC air delivery operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Start the engine and allow to reach operating temperature.
  2. Place the mode switch on the heater and A/C control module in the A/C position.
  3. Place the temperature selector on the heater and A/C control module in the cold position.
  4. Place the front auxiliary HVAC control module in the REAR CNTL position.
  5. Place the rear auxiliary HVAC control module in the HI position.
  6. Observe the temperature of the air from the rear auxiliary HVAC unit.
  7. Place the temperature selector on the heater and A/C control module in the hot position.

Does the air temperature from the rear auxiliary HVAC unit change from cold to hot?

  1. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  2. Disconnect the rear auxiliary temperature valve assembly.
  3. Connect a J 35616-200 unpowered test lamp between rear auxiliary temperature valve assembly connector cavity 10 for CKT 341 (BRN) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp light?

Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) between rear auxiliary temperature valve assembly connector cavity 7 for CKT 150 (BLK) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the circuit have continuity?

  1. Place the front auxiliary HVAC control module blower motor switch in the OFF position.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM between rear auxiliary temperature valve assembly connector cavity 8 for CKT 734 (DK GRN) and ground.
  3. Monitor the voltage while adjusting the temperature control knob at the front auxiliary HVAC control module. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is voltage indicated and does the voltage vary?

  1. Disconnect the front auxiliary HVAC control module.
  2. Connect a J 35616-200 unpowered test lamp between front auxiliary HVAC control module connector cavity H for CKT 734 (DK GRN) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp light?

Connect a J 39200 DMM between front auxiliary HVAC control module connector cavity B for CKT 734 and ground.

Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is continuity present?

  1. Connect a J 36169-A fused jumper wire between rear auxiliary temperature valve connector cavity 8 for CKT 734 (DK GRN) and ground.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM between front auxiliary HVAC control module connector cavity H for CKT 734 (DK GRN) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is continuity present?

Repair the open in CKT 341 (BRN) between splice S405 and the rear auxiliary temperature valve assembly.

Repair the open in CKT 150 (BLK) between the rear auxiliary temperature valve and splice S411.

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear auxiliary temperature valve assembly.

Repair the short to voltage in CKT 734 (DK GRN) between the front auxiliary HVAC control module and the rear auxiliary temperature valve assembly.

Repair the short to ground in CKT 734 (DK GRN) between the front auxiliary HVAC control module and the rear auxiliary temperature valve assembly.
