Did you review the HVAC air delivery operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  2. Place the front HVAC control module mode switch in the HEAT position.
  3. Place the front auxiliary HVAC control module in the REAR CNTL position.
  4. Place the rear auxiliary HVAC control module in the HI position.
  5. Observe the air flow from the rear auxiliary HVAC unit.
  6. Place the front auxiliary HVAC control module in the A/C position.
  7. Listen at the rear auxiliary HVAC unit for the rear auxiliary mode valve to move.
  8. Observe the air flow from the rear auxiliary HVAC unit.

Does the rear auxiliary mode valve move and the air temperature change from hot to cold?

  1. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  2. Disconnect the rear auxiliary mode valve and seal assembly.
  3. Connect a J 35616-200 unpowered test lamp between rear auxiliary mode valve and seal assembly connector cavity 10 for CKT 341 (BRN) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp light?

Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) between rear auxiliary mode valve and seal assembly connector cavity 7 for CKT 150 (BLK) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the circuit have continuity?

--

  1. Place the blower motor switch at the front auxiliary HVAC control module in the OFF position.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM between rear auxiliary mode valve and seal assembly connector cavity 8 for CKT 733 (LT BLU) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  3. Monitor the voltmeter while adjusting the mode control knob at the front auxiliary HVAC control module.

Is voltage indicated and does the voltage vary?

  1. Disconnect the front auxiliary HVAC control module.
  2. Connect a J 35616-200 unpowered test lamp between front auxiliary HVAC control module connector cavity J for CKT 733 (LT BLU) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp light?

Connect a J 39200 DMM between front auxiliary HVAC control module connector cavity J for CKT 733 (LT BLU) and ground.

Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the circuit have continuity?

--

  1. Connect a J 36169-A fused jumper wire between rear auxiliary mode valve and seal connector cavity 8 for CKT 733 (LT BLU) and ground.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM between front auxiliary HVAC control module connector cavity J for CKT 733 (LT BLU) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the circuit have continuity?

Repair the open in CKT 341 (BRN) between splice S405 and the rear auxiliary mode valve and seal assembly.

Is the repair complete?

Repair the open in CKT 150 (BLK) between the rear auxiliary mode valve and seal and splice S411.

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear auxiliary mode valve and seal assembly.

Repair the short to voltage in CKT 733 (LT BLU) between the front auxiliary HVAC control module and the rear auxiliary mode valve and seal assembly.

Repair the short to ground in CKT 733 (LT BLU) between the front auxiliary HVAC control module and the rear auxiliary mode valve and seal assembly.
