DEFINITION: The fasten safety belt indicator on the instrument cluster remains lit after the audible alarm ceases, or with the driver's seat belt buckled.

Did you review the fasten safety belt indicator circuit operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Buckle the driver's seat belt.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  3. Observe the fasten safety belt indicator.

Does the fasten safety belt indicator come on for approximately 15 seconds (bulb check), then go out?

  1. Disconnect multi-function alarm module connector C1.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
  3. Connect an unpowered test lamp between multi-function alarm module connector C1 cavity C2 for CKT 234 (YEL) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  4. Place the ignition switch in RUN.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Reconnect multi-function alarm module connector C1.
  2. Connect an unpowered test lamp between instrument cluster connector cavity A12 for CKT 234 (YEL) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect multi-function alarm module connector C1.
  2. Buckle the driver's seat belt.
  3. Connect a J 39200 DMM between multi-function alarm module connector C1 cavity A2 for CKT 238 (BLK/WHT) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  4. Test for continuity.

Is continuity present?

Important: Vehicles with a GVW rating under 8500 lbs. are equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint System (SIR). Refer to SIR Service Precautions in SIR.

  1. Disconnect the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module connector. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the seat belt switch connector.
  3. Connect a J 39200 DMM between multi-function alarm module connector C1 cavity A2 for CKT 238 (BLK/WHT) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  4. Test for continuity.

Is continuity present?

  1. Reconnect the seat belt switch.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM between multi-function alarm module connector C1 cavity A2 for CKT 238 (BLK/WHT) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  3. Test for continuity.

Repair the short to voltage in CKT 234 (YEL) between the multi-function alarm module and the instrument cluster. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to ground in CKT 238 (BLK/WHT) between the mutli-function alarm module and the seat belt switch or the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnositc module. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
