Headlights/Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Circuit Description Domestic

The operation of the daytime running lamps is controlled by the daytime running lamps control module. The module is powered by CKT 39 (PNK) from the GAUGES fuse, and it is grounded through CKT 150 (BLK). The module turns on the daytime running lamps under the following conditions:

    • The ignition in ON.
    • The park brake is OFF.
    • The headlamps are OFF.

The daytime running lamps control module uses the following input circuits to determine whether or not to turn the daytime running lamps on.

    • Ignition key position, CKT 1134 (LT BLU)
    • Park brake position, CKT 1134 (LT BLU)
    • Headlamp switch status, CKT 10 (YEL)

The module turns on the daytime running lamps by supplying a ground to CKT 592 (LT GRN/BLK) from the daytime running lamp relay. The ground supplied by the module also turns on the DRL indicator in the instrument panel (IP) cluster. When the daytime running lamp relay is activated by the daytime running lamps control module, the relay applies current from CKT 340 (ORN) to the headlamps through CKT 12 (TAN).

The daytime running lamps control module also performs the function of turning on the BRAKE indicator in the IP cluster. The BRAKE indicator is illuminated when the module grounds CKT 33 (TAN/WHT), which occurs under the following conditions:

    • The park brake is ON.
    • There is a pressure differential in the hydraulic brakes.

The following input circuits supply the module with information which indicates whether or not the BRAKE indicator should be on.

    • Park brake status, CKT 1134 (LT BLU)
    • Pressure differential, CKT 33 (TAN/WHT)

    • Park brake position, CKT 1134 (LT BLU)
    • Headlamp switch status, CKT 9 (BRN)

The module turns on the front and rear daytime running lamps by supplying a ground to CKT 592 (LT GRN/BLK) from the daytime running lamp relay and DRL rear parklamp relay. When the relays are activated by the daytime running lamps control module, the relays apply current from CKT 340 (ORN) to the headlamps through CKT 12 (TAN) and to the rear park lamps through CKT 909 BRN.

The daytime running lamps control module also performs the function of turning on the BRAKE indicator in the IP cluster. The BRAKE indicator is illuminated when the module grounds CKT 33 (TAN/WHT), which occurs under the following conditions:

    • The parking brake is ON.
    • There is a pressure differential in the hydraulic brakes.

The following input circuits supply the module with information which indicates whether or not the BRAKE indicator should be on.

    • Park brake status, CKT 1134 (LT BLU)
