DEFINITION: The CHECK GAUGES indicator is on with the engine oil pressure above approximately 34.5 kPa (5 psi) or with the engine coolant temperature below approximately 118°C (245°F).

Did you review the instrument cluster circuit description and perform the necessary inspections?

Start the engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature.

Does the check gauges indicator come on for bulb check, then go out?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Place the ignition switch in RUN.
  2. Observe the temperature gauge.

Is the temperature indicated on the gauge greater than the specified value?

118.3°C (245°F)

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Observe the oil pressure gauge.

Does the oil pressure gauge indicate pressure less than the specified value?

34.5 kPa (5 psi)

Is the check gauges indicator lamp still always illuminated?
