  1. Remove the rear window defogger relay. Refer to Rear Window Defogger Relay Replacement .
  2. Connect an J 35616-200 unpowered test light between the rear window defogger relay connector cavity C1 for CKT 1540 (ORN) and a known good ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 5

Connect an J 35616-200 unpowered test lamp between the rear window defogger relay connector cavity C1 for CKT 1540 (ORN) and cavity C2 for CKT 150 (BLK).

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 7

Repair the open wire in CKT 150 (BLK) between the rear window defogger relay connector cavity C2 for CKT 150 (BLK) and ground G400, refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

  1. Connect an J 35616-200 unpowered test light between the rear window defogger relay cavity C2 for CKT 150 (BLK) and cavity A1 for CKT 267 (ORN).
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Depress the rear window defogger switch.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Connect an J 36169-A fused jumper wire between the rear window defogger relay connector cavity C1 for CKT 1540 (ORN) and cavity A2 for CKT 293 (PPL).
  2. Inspect the RR window defogger grid operation.

Does the grid operate?

Replace the rear window defogger relay. Refer to Rear Window Defogger Relay Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Inspect the RR DEFOG fuse 22.

If OK, repair the open wire in CKT 1540 (ORN) between the rear window defogger relay connector cavity C1 and the RR FOG fuse.

Are the LH and RH outside heated mirrors also inoperative?

Locate and repair the open wire in CKT 293 (PPL) between the rear window defogger relay connector cavity A2 and S429, refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Repair the open wire in CKT 267 (ORN) between the rear window defogger relay connector cavity A1 and S245, refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the rear window defogger element connectors at the inoperative grid.
  2. Connect an J 35616-200 unpowered test lamp between the rear window defogger element connector cavity A for CKT 293 (BLK) and a known good ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Depress the rear defogger switch.

Did the test lamp light?

--

Repair open wire in CKT 293 (PPL) between the defogger element connector cavity A at the inoperative grid and S429, refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Connect an J 35616-200 unpowered test light across connector cavity A for CKT 293 (BLK) and connector cavity A for CKT 250 (BLK) at the inoperative window grid connector.

Does the test lamp light?

--

  1. Repair the element if possible. Refer to Grid Line Repair .
  2. Replace the glass if necessary. Refer to Hinged Rear Window Replacement .

Repair the open ground in CKT 250/150 (BLK) between the inoperative window grid connector cavity A and ground, refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
