Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the engine
mount bracket to the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the engine mount bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).
- Install the right engine
mount bracket to the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the engine mount bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).
- Install the J 36857
and a length of chain, using GM P/N 23503910
or equivalent attaching bolt, to the rear of the right cylinder head and
the front of the left cylinder head.
- Remove the engine assembly from the engine stand.
- Install the flywheel on
the crankshaft.
Tighten
Tighten the flywheel bolts to 90 N·m (65 lb ft).
- Install the left engine
mount to the frame.
Tighten
Tighten the engine mount bolts to 59 N·m (44 lb ft).
- Install the right engine
mount to the frame.
Tighten
Tighten the engine mount bolts to 59 N·m (44 lb ft).
- Install the engine assembly in the vehicle.
- Lower the engine assembly on to the engine mount brackets.
- Install the engine mount
through-bolt for the left side.
Tighten
Tighten the through-bolt to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).
- Install the engine mount
through-bolt for the right side.
Tighten
Tighten the through-bolt to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).
- Remove the lifting device from the engine assembly.
- Raise the vehicle.
Important: The torque converter must be flush onto the flywheel and rotate freely
by hand.
- Install the bolts that secure the transmission to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the studs and the bolts to 47 N·m (34 lb ft).
- Install the bolts securing
the torque converter to the engine flywheel.
Tighten
- First tighten all the bolts finger tight in order to insure proper
converter seating.
- Tighten the bolts to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).
- Install the converter
cover to the transmission.
Tighten
Tighten bolts to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
- Install the starter assembly to the engine block. Refer to
Starter Motor Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Install the electrical
connection for the block heater.
- Install the ground straps
from the frame to the engine block.
- Install the transmission
oil cooler lines to the retainer.
- Install the engine oil cooler lines to the engine block. Refer
to
Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the lower intake manifold to the engine block. Refer to
Lower Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Install the exhaust manifolds to the cylinder heads. Refer to
Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side
and
Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side
.
- Install the turbocharger on the engine block. Refer to
Turbocharger Replacement
.
- Install the engine lift bracket. Refer to
Engine Lift Bracket Replacement
.
- Install the generator mounting bracket to the engine block. Refer
to
Generator Bracket Replacement
in
Engine Electrical.
- Install the wiring harness
to the left side of the engine assembly.
- Install the wiring harness
to the right side of the engine assembly.
- Install the radiator hoses to the engine assembly. Refer to
Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement
and
Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the radiator support
(1) with A/C condenser to the vehicle. Refer to
Radiator Support Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Install the ground strap bolts to the right and left fenders.
- Connect the forward lamp harness electrical connector.
- Connect the A/C condenser lines to the A/C condenser.
- Install radiator in the vehicle. Refer to
Radiator Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the transmission oil cooler (if equipped). Refer to
Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Cooler Replacement
in Automatic Transmission - 4L80E.
- Install the auxiliary engine oil cooler. Refer to
Auxiliary Engine Oil Cooler Replacement
in Engine
Cooling.
- Install the grille on the vehicle. Refer to
Grille Replacement
in Exterior Trim.
- Install the front bumper on the vehicle. Refer to
Front Bumper Replacement
in Bumpers.
- Refill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the battery in the vehicle. Refer to
Battery Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
in Heating, Ventilation and
Air Conditioning.
- Install the hood assembly on the vehicle. Refer to
Hood Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Fill the engine crankcase with the proper type and quantity of
engine oil. Refer to
Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
.
- Install a scan tool and make the required adjustments.
- Perform the TDC offset adjustment procedure. Refer to
Fuel Injection Pump Top Dead Center Offset Adjustment
in Engine
Controls-6.5L (L65).
- Install the engine cover in the vehicle. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
in Interior Trim.
