J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Install the pin into the park brake pedal. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling .
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 159787  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the cable at the cable adjuster.
  5. Disconnect the front cable from the rear cables.
  6. Remove the rear brake shoes from the backing plate. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes.
  7. Using the J 37043 , disconnect the cable from the backing plate retainer.

  9. Remove the rear cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 321732  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear cable to the vehicle.
  2. Connect the rear cable to the backing plate retainer.
  3. Install the rear brake shoes to the backing plate. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes.

  4. Object Number: 159787  Size: SH
  5. Connect the front cable to the rear cables.
  6. Remove the pin from the park brake pedal. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling .
  7. Place the lever to the FULL up position.

  8. Object Number: 321732  Size: SH
  9. Measure the threads of the equalizer. Adjust the threads to the following specifications:
  10. • Passenger/Cargo to 13 mm (0.511 in)
    • Cutaway/Upfitters to 21 mm (0.826 in)
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Verify that the vehicle will hold the position with the brake lever depressed.
  13. If additional adjustments need to be made, refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
