Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: One or more of the low, mist, washer wipers, or delay modes are inoperative.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition on.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch through all of the switch positions.

Does the windshield wiper/washer system operate normal?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Remove the WIPER fuse #11.
  2. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  3. Test the resistance from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal to the windshield wiper switch pulse delay signal circuit terminal in the windshield wiper motor harness connector.
  4. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch through all of the delay positions.

Does the resistance decrease from positions 1- 5 within the specified values?

450K ohms-25K ohms

With the DMM connected as in the previous step turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the low speed position.

Is the resistance near the specified value?

680 ohms

Test and repair the windshield wiper switch pulse delay signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test and repair the windshield wiper switch pulse delay signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tlit or Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Standard.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the windshield wiper motor cover. Refer to Wiper Motor Cover Replacement .
