Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.

  2. Object Number: 317197  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the distributor cap. Refer to Link Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the PCV valve from the valve rocker arm cover and set it aside.
  5. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
  6. Remove AIR bypass hose assembly, if so equipped. Refer to Link Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Check Valve/Pipe Replacement in Engine Controls.
  7. In order to gain access, remove the A/C compressor, if equipped. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  8. Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement in Power Steering System.

  9. Object Number: 188295  Size: SH
  10. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket.
  11. Lay the power steering pump and the power steering pump bracket aside.

  12. Object Number: 68709  Size: SH
  13. Remove the left valve rocker arm cover and gasket from the engine.
  14. Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 317197  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the left valve rocker arm cover and gasket to the engine.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  3. Install the power steering pump bracket .
  4. Install the Power Steering Pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
  5. Install the A/C compressor, if equipped. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  6. Connect the ETC sensor electrical connector. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
  7. Install the PCV valve to the valve rocker arm cover.
  8. Install AIR bypass hose assembly, if so equipped. Refer to Link Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Check Valve/Pipe Replacement in Engine Controls.
  9. Connect the spark plug wires to the distributor cap. Refer to Link Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  10. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
