DEFINITION: The low coolant indicator lamp is ON without a low engine coolant level.

Did you review the engine coolant level switch operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Check that the engine coolant level is full.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the low engine coolant indicator lamp come on for bulb check, then go out?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the low engine coolant level indicator switch.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire between the coolant level switch signal circuit and the ground circuit of the coolant level switch. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the low indicator lamp turn off?

Replace the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .

  1. Reconnect the low coolant level switch.
  2. Disconnect the low engine coolant level indicator module connector.

Did the Indicator turn off?

Replace the low coolant indicator module. Refer to Engine Coolant Level Indicator Module Replacement in Instrument Panels, Gages and Console.

Repair the Short to ground in the low coolant switch signal circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to ground in the Low coolant level indicator control circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
