Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 470572  Size: SH
  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission -4L60-E or Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L80-E.
  2. Remove the engine flywheel bolts.
  3. Remove the engine flywheel.
  4. Clean and inspect the engine flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection in Engine Mechanical - 8.1L Unit Repair.

Installation Procedure

Important: Make sure the flywheel is installed correctly. "Engine Side" is stamped on the flywheel to assist with installation.

  1. Install the engine flywheel.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the flywheel bolts.
  4. Tighten

    1. Tighten the engine flywheel bolts to 80 N·m (59 lb ft) a first pass.
    2. Tighten the engine flywheel bolts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft) a final pass.
  5. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission -4L60-E or Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L80-E.
