Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Support the rear axle with a suitable jack stand.
  3. Relieve the tension from the shock absorber.

  4. Remove the following parts from the axle:
  5. • The lower shock absorber bolt
    • The lower shock absorber nut
  6. Remove the upper shock absorber bolts from the frame.
  7. Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shock absorber to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the upper shock absorber bolts to the frame.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the upper shock absorber bolts to 25 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Install the lower shock absorber bolt and the lower shock absorber nut to the axle.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the lower shock absorber nut and the lower shock absorber bolt to 80 N·m (60 lb ft).

  7. Remove the jackstand from the rear axle.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
