Removal Procedure

Notice: Hydraulic brake systems use two distinct and incompatible fluids. Power steering fluid is used in the hydraulic brake booster system. Brake fluid is used in the master cylinder and brake pipes. Use extreme care when selecting brake system fluids, or seal damage can result. Refer to General Information to select the correct fluid.

  1. Drain the power steering fluid.
  2. Remove the brake master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
  3. Disconnect the hose to the power steering fluid reservoir at the hydraulic power brake booster.

  4. Object Number: 161516  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the inlet hose and the outlet hose at the power brake booster.
  6. Remove the power brake booster pushrod.

  7. Object Number: 161513  Size: SH
  8. Remove the retaining nuts from the power brake booster.
  9. Remove the power brake booster from the vehicle.
  10. Remove the power brake booster gasket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power brake booster gasket.
  2. Install the power brake booster to the vehicle.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the retaining nuts to the power brake booster.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining nuts to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  6. Install the power brake booster pushrod.

  7. Object Number: 161516  Size: SH
  8. Connect the inlet hose to the power brake booster.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the inlet hose fitting to the power brake booster to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  10. Connect the outlet hose to the power brake booster.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the outlet hose fitting to the power brake booster to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  12. Install the power steering fluid reservoir hose to the power brake booster with new clamps.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering fluid reservoir hose fitting to the power brake booster to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  14. Install the brake master cylinder to the vehicle. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
  15. Bleed the power steering system. Power Steering System Bleeding .
