Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement 4.3L Engine

Removal Procedure

    Notice: Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system.

  1. Make preparations in order to catch any fluid that drains out of the connections.

  2. Object Number: 309296  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the power steering hose (4,5) connections.
  4. Cap the power steering hoses and cooler ends in order to prevent the entry of dirt.
  5. Disconnect the power steering pipe connections.
  6. Cap the power steering pipes and cooler ends in order to prevent the entry of dirt.
  7. Remove the bolts (2).
  8. Remove the cooler (6) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 309296  Size: SH
  1. Install the cooler (6) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  5. Connect the power steering hose (4, 5) connections.
  6. Connect the power steering pipe connections.
  7. Fill the power steering system with power steering fluid.
  8. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement 5.0, 5.7, 6.5 Diesel and 8.1L Engines

Removal Procedure

  4. Cap the power steering hoses and cooler ends in order to prevent the entry of dirt.
  5. Disconnect the power steering pipe connections.
  6. Cap the power steering pipes and cooler ends in order to prevent the entry of dirt.
  7. Remove the nuts (2).
  8. Remove the cooler (6) from the vehicle.

  1. Install the cooler (6) to the vehicle.

  3. Install the nuts (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Connect the power steering hose (3, 4) connections.
  6. Connect the power steering pipe connections.
  7. Fill the power steering system with power steering fluid.
  8. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
