Do any indicators illuminate when the chime activates?

Go to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Open the driver door.

Does the chime activate?

Go to Step 4

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the left front door jamb switch.
  2. Insert the key into the ignition, with the ignition OFF.

Does the chime stop?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 5

Test the signal circuit of the left front door jamb switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Disconnect the ignition key alarm switch.

Does the chime stop?

Go to Step 10

Test the signal circuit of the key-in-ignition switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the lamps on input circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Multifunction Alarm Module Replacement .

Replace the ignition key alarm switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.

Replace the left front door jamb switch. Refer to Front Side Door Lock Replacement in Doors.
