Maintenance Schedule Gasoline
Normal Vehicle Use
Because of the different ways GM vehicles are used, maintenance needs
vary. More frequent maintenance intervals than found in this manual may by
needed. When reading this section, keep in mind the conditions under
which the vehicle is operated, and adjust the maintenance intervals
accordingly.
The maintenance schedules found in this manual are for vehicles that:
• | Are driven on reasonable road surfaces within legal driving limits. |
• | Are driven off-road in the recommended manner. |
• | Use recommended unleaded fuel. |
Selecting the Right Maintenance Schedule
Important: Additional maintenance recommendations are in this subsection. Also
refer to
Owner Checks and Services
,
Explanation of Scheduled Services
and
Periodic Maintenance Inspection
.
Determine which of the two schedules is right for this vehicle. Refer
to the definitions of maintenance schedules below.
Short Trip/City Maintenance Definition
Follow the Short Trip/City Scheduled Maintenance only if any one of
the following conditions is true for this vehicle:
• | Most trips are less than 8-16 km (5-10 mi). |
| This is particularly important when the outside temperature is
below freezing. |
• | Most trips include extensive idling, such as frequent driving
in stop-and-go traffic. |
• | Most trips are through dusty areas. |
• | Trailer towing or using a carrier on top of the vehicle frequently. |
• | The vehicle is used for delivery service, police, taxi, or other
commercial application. |
These conditions cause engine oil to break down sooner.
Short Trip/City Summary
The following intervals only summarize maintenance summarize maintenance
schedules. Be sure to follow the complete scheduled maintenance. Refer to
Maintenance Schedule - Short Trip/City
.
Every 5 000 km (3,500 mi)
• | Change the Engine Oil and Filter (or 3 months, whichever comes
first) |
• | Lubricate the Chassis (or 3 months, whichever comes first) |
• | Drive Axle Service (or 3 months, whichever comes first) |
Every 10 000 km (6,000 mi)
Rotate the Tires
Every 25 000 km (15,000 mi)

Cooling System Service (or every 60 months, whichever occurs first)
Long Trip/Highway Definition
Follow this scheduled maintenance only if none of the conditions from
the Short Trip/City Scheduled Maintenance is true. Do not use this schedule
if one of the following conditions apply:
• | The vehicle is used for towing trailers. |
• | The vehicle is driven in a dusty area. |
• | The vehicle is used off of paved roads. |
Driving a vehicle with a fully warmed engine under highway conditions
cause engine oil to break down slower.
Long Trip/Highway Summary
Follow the Long Trip/Highway maintenance schedule ONLY if none of the
conditions from the Short Trip/City maintenance schedule is true.
The following intervals only summarize the Long Trip/Highway Maintenance
Schedule.
Every 12 500 km (7,000 mi)
• | Change the Engine Oil and Filter (or 12 every months, whichever
comes first) |
• | Lubricate the Chassis. (or every 12 months, whichever comes first) |
Every 25 000 km (15,000 mi)
Inspect the Noise Shields (GVWR above 10,000 lbs. only)
Every 50 000 km (30,000 mi)

occurs first) |
Every 83 000 km (50,000 mi)
Automatic Transmission Service (vehicles over 8600 GVWR or driven under
severe conditions or equipped with a diesel engine.
Every 100 000 km (60,000 mi)
• | Inspect the Engine Accessory Drive Belt |
• | Inspect the Fuel Tank, Cap and Lines (7.4L Gasoline Engine) (Except
California) |
