Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the oil pan and filter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .
  3. Remove the park/neutral position switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 43309  Size: SH
  5. Remove the manual shaft nut and the pin.
  6. Remove the detent lever and the actuator assembly.
  7. Remove the bolts and the parking pawl bracket.
  8. Remove the parking pawl return spring.

  9. Object Number: 43307  Size: SH
  10. Use the modified screw extractor in order to remove the plug.
  11. Remove the parking pawl shaft retainer, the shaft and the pawl.
  12. Important: If the manual shaft binds in the case during removal, file or sand the shaft in the area adjacent to the detent lever.

  13. Remove the manual shaft.
  14. Remove the manual shaft seal.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 43307  Size: SH
  1. Install the pawl shaft.
  2. Install the parking pawl.
  3. Install the plug using a 8 mm or (5/16 in) rod with LOCTITE® or the equivalent.
  4. Install the retainer.

  6. Install the pawl return spring.
  7. Install the detent lever to the actuator assembly.
  8. Install actuator assembly over the parking pawl.
  9. Install the manual shaft seal.
  10. Lubricate the manual shaft with transmission oil and install the manual shaft into the case.
  11. Install the nut on the shaft.
  12. Install the roll pin.
  13. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  14. Install the parking lock bracket with the two bolts.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  16. Install the park/neutral position switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement .
  17. Install the oil pan and filter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON® VI transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
