Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  3. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connectors.
  4. Remove the ignition coil wire to the distributor.

  5. Object Number: 580239  Size: SH
  6. Using a suitable tool disconnect the cruse control cable from the throttle body.

  7. Object Number: 325556  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the accelerator control cable from the throttle lever.

  9. Object Number: 398027  Size: SH
  10. Remove the accelerator cable bracket and position aside.

  11. Object Number: 31466  Size: SH
  12. Remove the studs holding the bracket and the ignition coil to the intake manifold.
  13. Remove the bracket and the ignition coil.
  14. Drill and punch out the two rivets holding the ignition coil to the bracket.
  15. Remove the ignition coil from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

    Important: A replacement ignition coil kit comes with 2 screws in order to attach the ignition coil to the bracket.

  1. Install the ignition coil to the bracket with the 2 screws.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 31466  Size: SH
  3. Install the ignition coil and the bracket to the intake manifold with studs.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the studs to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  5. Install the accelerator control bracket.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the accelerator control cable bracket nuts and studs to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  7. Connect the accelerator control cable to the throttle cable.

  8. Object Number: 580222  Size: SH
  9. Connect the cruse control cable (2) to the throttle linkage.

  10. Object Number: 387772  Size: SH
  11. Install the ignition coil wire.
  12. The wire must not touch anything like the dip stick. Rubbing will make a ground or short after time of use.

  13. Install the electrical connectors.
  14. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  15. Install the air cleaner outlet resonator. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
