Did you perform the Lighting Diagnostic System Check?

Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate normally?

  1. Block the drive wheels.
  2. Ensure the park brake is released.
  3. Turn ON the Ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. Place the headlamps in the Off position.
  5. With the brake pedal depressed, place the gear selector in "D".

Is only 1 daytime running lamp (DRL) inoperative?

Go to Step 4

Test the supply and ground circuits of the affected lamp for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 15

  1. Ensure the park brake is not set.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the park brake switch parameter in the Body Control Module (BCM) data list.

Does the scan tool display RELEASED?

Go to Step 7

Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 15

Test the DRL low control circuit of the turn/hazard flasher module for a ground signal.

Is ground signal present?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the turn/hazard flasher module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you perform the Lighting Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Engage the park brake.
  3. Place the gear selector in the drive position.
  4. With the headlamps in the OFF position, toggle the DRL defeat switch several times.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

With a scan tool, command the DRL ON and OFF several times.

Do the DRL operate as expected?

Go to Step 4

Test the DRL On/Off signal circuit of the BCM for a high resistance, an open, or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
