DEFINITION: The windshield washer pump is always ON.

  1. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.

Is the windshield washer pump always ON?

Go to Step 3

Are the windshield wipers always ON?

Go to Step 6

Remove the windshield washer relay from the underhood fuse block. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.

Is the windshield washer pump ON?

Go to Step 13

Connect a test lamp from battery positive voltage to the windshield washer relay control circuit terminal in the underhood fuse block.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.
  4. Connect a test lamp from the windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit terminal to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Measure resistance between the windshield wiper switch voltage supply circuit and the signal 1 circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is the resistance less than 380 ohms?

Test the windshield washer relay control circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the windshield washer relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
