The IPC illuminates the change engine oil indicator or the low oil level indicator as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting the illumination of the change engine oil indicator or the low oil level indicator. The IPC utilizes the same indicator to display a change engine oil request or a low oil level condition. The change engine oil indicator when illuminated is solid and the low oil level indicator when illuminated flashes. Once the oil is changed, perform the engine oil monitor reset procedure in order to clear the Change Engine Oil indicator. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting in Maintenance and Lubrication.
The IPC illuminates the check gages indicator as determined by the PCM. The PCM monitors the engine coolant temperature sensor and the engine oil pressure sensor. When the PCM detects that the engine metal is hot, or the engine coolant temperature is higher than normal or the engine oil pressure is lower than normal, the PCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC requesting illumination. When a high coolant temperature condition exists, the IPC illuminates a solid check gages indicator and activates an audible warning. When the engine metal is hot, the IPC flashes the check gages indicator and activates an audible warning. The IPC only illuminates a solid check gages indicator with a low engine oil pressure condition.
The IPC illuminates the low fuel indicator when the IPC detects that the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent.
