Diagnostic Aids

Test for all of the following before replacing the panel actuator fuse:

    • Each of the access panel voltage supply circuits for a short to ground.
    • Each of the relay coil supply circuits for a short to ground or an open.
    • All of the access panel actuators for internal shorts.

Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. An open fuse in this step may have been caused by a short to ground in any of the 3 access panel voltage supply circuits or a shorted access panel actuator. Refer to Diagnostic Aids.

Press and release each access panel button on the key fob.

Did any of the panels open?

Go to Step 3

Did all the access panels open?

  1. With a scan tool, observe the access panel output parameter in the BCM Data List.
  2. Press each button on the transmitter one at a time.

Does the output state change when each button is pressed?

Go to Step 10

  1. With a scan tool, observe the key fob information parameter in the remote function actuation data list.
  2. Press each access panel button on the transmitter one at a time.

Does the scan tool data parameter show that the correct button was pressed?

Go to Step 14

Important: Inspect that the keyless entry transmitter is the correct model for the vehicle remote system. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate the vehicle remote system.

  1. Turn on the J 43241 Keyless Entry Tester.
  2. Place the transmitter on the J 43241 test pad.
  3. Press each button of the transmitter one at a time.

Does a tone sound and the green light illuminate on the J 43241 after each button is pressed?

Go to Step 13

Do any of the buttons on the transmitter sound the tone and illuminate the green light when pressed?

Go to Step 12

Replace the transmitter battery. Refer to Transmitter Battery Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn on the J 43241 .
  2. Place the transmitter on the J 43241 test pad.
  3. Press each button of the transmitter one at a time.

Does a tone sound and the green light illuminate on the J 43241 after each button is pressed?

Go to Step 16

  1. Remove any of the access panel relays.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the access panel relay coil supply circuit and a good ground.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 14

Repair access panel relay coil supply circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 16

Replace the transmitter.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 13

Perform the programming procedure. Refer to Transmitter Programming .

Did the scan tool indicate that the transmitter programmed properly?

Go to Step 16

Replace the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 16

Replace the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR). Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
